Inspiration

A book inspired this blog. Or rather–and I’m sure the author of that book will agree with me–he and I had the same inspiration. The inspiration came a lot earlier than the writing, though. The Tiger, by John Vaillant, captivated me in the spring of 2012. An avid Canada Reads listener, watcher and wannabe, I thought it was thrilling, funny, and awe-inspiring. It was also one of the best nature books I’d ever read.

Years later, during my latest rekindling with yoga, I was thinking about how catlike and powerful my favourite yoga feels. Yoga? Yeah: yoga. I don’t care if you’re more Muhammad Ali or more Dalai Lama, yoga will make you better at wherever your greatness lies. Think about how these two emulate the tiger: neither fears anything, both remain perfectly calm, both act with undeniable power.

And power is what it’s all about: the tiger embodies and exemplifies it in every moment & movement. You can embody that power, too. Every moment. Power to be the best you. Power to decide. Power without fear. Power to serve others and yourself.
